Sonia Cabell, Ph.D.
Sonia Cabell, Ph.D., is the R. Keith and Patricia Duggins Sigmon Endowed Professor of Reading Education in the School of Teacher Education at Florida State University and core faculty at the Florida Center for Reading Research. Before receiving her Ph.D. at the University of Virginia, she worked as a second grade teacher and literacy coach. Sonia’s research focuses on early literacy instruction, with a particular interest in the prevention of reading difficulties. She has authored over 70 publications, including research articles and books. She has also been an advisor or consultant for a variety of national organizations and state departments of education.

Throughout her career, she has focused on creating high-quality learning environments using evidence-based practices.
