Description
Mastery: Student silently recognizes “qu” as a chunk, looks at the vowel that comes after c/g (to determine soft or hard sound) and decodes regularly spelled one-syllable words with “qu” and soft & hard c/g with automaticity.
Acquiring: Student decodes the word with “qu,” or c/g (sound by sound), before blending. Student self-corrects if he/she initially says the wrong sound (soft or hard) for c/g. Student may need a reminder from the teacher or help from a sound/spelling card.
