Amplify creates education products that celebrate difference in life and thought. We are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the culture we build, the people we hire, and the products and services we provide for educators and students.

Our commitment

Our goal is to make education, and thereby the world, more equitable.

We create education products that celebrate difference in life and thought as well as ideals we may hold in common.

We help teachers craft rigorous learning experiences that reflect the diverse histories, cultures, and identities their students bring to the classroom.

We also help teachers support their students in constructing, questioning, expanding, and strengthening knowledge of where they come from and who they are becoming.

To do this, we hire and develop people with the broadest range of talents, life stories and experiences, and together we build a diverse and inclusive culture.

Our programs

We are committed to reviewing each of our programs and identifying opportunities for inclusion and representation. To that end, we have created a product working group composed of diverse employees that collaborates with customers and experts to integrate more inclusive approaches into the research, design, development, and implementation of our products and services.

Our people and culture

Learning isn’t just for the educators and students we serve—we invest in employee growth as well. For employees to grow, thrive, and bring their full selves to our important work, creating an inclusive company culture is critical. Inclusivity is not something we achieve, but rather a way of working that we choose, the result of shared values and deliberate decisions we make every day we work together.

As we continue to build a more inclusive culture at Amplify, we are focusing on the following areas:

Identifying, promoting, and retaining talent

  • We are working to attract, develop, and promote people who reflect the diverse communities and perspectives of those we serve.
  • Our recruitment includes proactive efforts to attract and target underrepresented candidates to our open roles.
  • We are measuring our demographics to track our progress toward greater gender and ethnic representation.
  • We take mental health seriously and provide a range of resources to support mental wellness.

Building awareness by creating space for discussions

  • We are intentional about deepening mutual understanding by creating spaces for employees to learn from each other’s experiences.
  • We support employee resource groups (ERGs). ERGs are voluntary, employee-led groups whose members share a common characteristic or life experience. ERGs at Amplify include Justice@Amplify, Noir@Amplify, Pride@Amplify, Raza@Amplify, and SHE@Amplify. ERGs are also a welcome pace for allies to build their own understanding.
  • We regularly invite renowned authors, educators, and researchers to our offices for in-depth discussions about their latest works.

Our external communities

In the face of ongoing and systemic racism, Amplify has committed to a sustained plan of action that we hope will contribute to real and enduring change. In our external communities, our work includes:

Supporting organizations that are taking action in the areas of social justice and anti-racism

  • We are proud to support Brooklyn Movement Center, Vera Institute of Justice, The Southern Center for Human Rights, Gideon’s Promise, and The Southern Coalition for Social Justice. These organizations are doing the work of anti-racism and social justice in Atlanta, GA, Brooklyn, NY, and Raleigh, NC, the communities where most of our employees live and work.
  • Leaders from each of these five organizations have spoken about their social justice work at Amplify company meetings. We are exploring ways to continue meaningful partnership opportunities on an ongoing basis.

Providing Amplify programs, services, and talent to educational institutions to address inequality

  • As part of our response to the pandemic and the overnight switch to remote learning, we have provided free access to our supplemental programs. We have also provided free access to a Foundational Skills Boost and a set of social and emotional learning (SEL) activities for grades 6-12 called Starting Points.
  • We are broadening our internships and development programs to attract more students from underrepresented communities.

Supporting the education of Amplify team members in understanding how we have been shaped by racism and how we can change

  • We offer learning experiences beyond our walls, including employee group visits to the Equal Justice Initiative Legacy Museum and National Memorial for Peace and Justice in Montgomery, Alabama.
