Amplify Science of Reading Star Awards

In the 2023–24 school year, Patrick County Public Schools (PCPS) in southwest Virginia served over 2,400 students across four elementary schools (PreK–7), one primary school (K–3), one upper elementary school (4–7), and one high school (8–12).

PCPS recognizes the crucial role of literacy in student success—that’s why they embarked on a transformative journey to enhance reading instruction. The district focused on training teachers in the research-based reading practices of the Science of Reading, and Amplify CKLA has been central to these goals.

All PCPS schools are fully accredited by the State Board of Education as meeting or exceeding state expectations. The district and several schools have been recognized by the Department of Education and the Virginia Board of Education. Patrick County Public Schools continues to meet high standards and strives to uphold these goals, ensuring that all students receive a high-quality education.
