Amplify teams up with Poetry in America to produce engaging ELA content for middle schoolers

Brooklyn, NY – (4/15/19): Amplify, a publisher of next-generation curriculum and assessment programs, announced today that it is partnering with Poetry in America® to help bring poetry to life in middle school classrooms through its Amplify ELA program. Amplify will work closely with Poetry in America’s creator, Elisa New, to develop new lessons and content that get students and teachers truly excited about poetry.

The online lessons will include tips for leading rich classroom discussions on poetry and videos of a wide variety of interpreters close reading poems. Interpreters include Shaquille O’Neal, Angela Duckworth, Regina Spektor, Joe Biden, Shiza Shahid, Anson Dorrance, Elizabeth Alexander, Richard Blanco, and Duy Doan.

“We often hear from teachers that they would love to teach poetry but steer away from it, worried that it might be hard for their students to grasp,” said Deb Sabin, chief academic officer of Amplify ELA. “Elisa New’s lively approach to poetry showcased in Poetry in America made her our top choice to help out our teachers!”

“Poetry in America is delighted to partner with Amplify ELA in sharing new approaches to reading and teaching poetry in middle school settings,” said Elisa New. “A half an hour’s study of a poem can foster lively classroom engagement, and help build student competence—and confidence—with complex texts.”
