Supporting back to school 2020–2021

While back to school will look different for every district, Amplify Fractions provides the personalized instruction and practice students need to catch up and boost growth. With a completely student-centered design, Amplify Fractions is the perfect program to bridge learning gaps while in the classroom and at home.

How to use Amplify Fractions for remote learning

Amplify Fractions is ideal for personalized practice and instruction during remote learning. Students can use it on their own (no adult supervision needed!) on a variety of common devices, including Chromebooks, tablets, laptops, and desktops. Below you’ll find resources and recommendations for supporting students in developing their math skills at home with Amplify Fractions.

  • Have students use Amplify Fractions for 30–45 minutes a week in 15-minute increments. Studies show that students make significant growth in fractions skills after just a few lessons.
  • Assign Amplify Fractions as a consistent part of a remote learning routine. Amplify Fractions helps students apply and extend the foundational skills they’re working on in core instruction. It also helps fill in gaps that may emerge during periods of extended remote learning.
  • Use Amplify Fractions data to check in with individual students or groups of students to work on a skill. Within the insights and reporting tools, teachers will receive real-time insights into students’ progress and can access targeted activities to use with students over Zoom or a similar platform.
  • Leverage unlimited practice to provide additional opportunities for skill practice. Amplify Fractions’ patented digital tutor will provide your students with personalized feedback as they progress through the program and work on specific skills.

How to use Amplify Fractions for hybrid learning

You may be considering staggered schedules or alternating between remote and in-person days. Amplify Fractions’ resources for hybrid learning ensure that students continue to develop critical foundational skills both in the classroom and at home.

We recommend that students continue to use Amplify Fractions independently at home on remote learning days while teachers work directly with students when they’re in class. In the classroom, teachers can support students in the following ways:

  • Independent class time: Devote one class period every week to having students work independently on Amplify Fractions. While students are working independently on devices, teachers can work with small groups who need extra support with fractions or other topics.
  • Classroom rotation centers: Use Amplify Fractions in one of the rotation centers in your classroom, so students can work independently.
  • Review: Use Amplify Fractions both inside and outside the classroom (at home, or in computer labs or media centers), so students can consistently practice their fractions skills, building a solid fractions foundation.
  • Homework: Regularly assign Amplify Fractions to students as homework. Because students move through the content at different paces, teachers may want to assign one strand per week and ask students to work on practice for the rest of the week after they complete a strand.
  • Supplemental classroom instruction: Use a Smartboard or other projection device to display an interactive lesson in front of the whole class when introducing that skill, and then having the students go into the program to complete the lesson independently, along with the associated practice to reinforce the skill.

Reporting and insights tools to inform targeted instruction

Teachers can monitor class and individual student progress and performance within lessons and practice, including reference to related skills and standards.

The reporting interface makes it easy to view the progress of entire classes before drilling into data for specific students and problem areas. Our reporting is transparent, offering teachers the precise data on how students are doing in lessons and practice, as well as a complete history of questions they’ve seen and the answers they’ve given in each practice.
